Kanye Omari West is an American rapper, singer, and record producer, having five solo albums, which have all gone platinum, and fourteen Grammy Awards.  Shawn Corey Carter, known as Jay-Z, is an American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, and occasional actor.  He has won thirteen Grammy Awards, and has sold approximately fifty million albums, ranking him as one of the greatest rappers of all time.  The two superstars decided to make this album together, to tell a story, using themes of fame, power, materialism, arrogance, political and socioeconomic hardships, questions of faith, heritage and family, overcoming struggles, betrayal and obsessions, to name a few.

The music in the album is compared to progressive rock from the 1960's and 70's, which described the groups such as Pink Floyd, Yes, and Jethro Tull, to name a few.  Jay-Z and Kanye initially had differences in which direction the album would go, but in the end agreed, and it has worked.  The recording began uniquely, in a block of hotel rooms rented at the Mercer Hotel in New York City.  They had different music coming from each room, which is a very interesting way of recording.  Baroque strings, staccato orchestration, industrial noises, dialogue, Otis Redding and James Brown recordings, Eastern flute melodies, and Nina Simone's “Feeling Good” through an Auto-Tune voice processor, were all used in making this album.  Guest artists who provided additional vocals for the album were Beyonce, Frank Ocean, Mr. Hudson, Swizz Beatz, and Kid Cudi.  Jay-Z Concert Tickets are available now through December 18th, and all concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.  Purchase your tickets now, to “Watch The Throne”.
