NFL Football – About the Green Bay Packers What started as a “small town team” in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau is one of the most loved football team’s in the NFL. They’re the third oldest franchise in the league and the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional team in United States sports. They’ve won 13 league championships and have been part of the Green Bay, Wisconsin community since their inception. The Packs have a long-standing rivalry with the Chicago Bears and also faces a little tension from the Vikings in the neighboring state of Minnesota. The Green Bay Packers hold the longest streak of consecutive home games without losing (30 games) during the 1930 and 1931 seasons under founding coach Curly Lambeau. The Packs had their hey-days in the sixties under head coach Vince Lombardi, winning five world championships in seven years. During this time, they won the first two Super Bowls held for the NFL. The team’s most recent “era” was that of Brett Fabre, which ran from 1992 to 2007 and had its fair share of wins. Favre never missed a start during his time with the Green Bay Packers after his first appearance stepping in for injured quarterback Don Majkowski in ’92. He holds the record for most consecutive starts in the NFL, totally 297 which includes some with the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings.
