NFL Football – About the Indianapolis Colts

This team got its start in Baltimore in 1953 and was the first NFL team to have cheerleaders to lead the fans in chants and cheers for the Indianapolis Colts.   They made the move to Indianapolis in 1984, starting out at Hoosier Dome (later called the RCA Dome) but make the switch to their current Lucas Oil Stadium in 2008 after a 2007 win in Super Bowl XLI.

The Colts have four NFL Championships under their belts and since 1998, they are the first league in NFL history to win 12 or more games in five consecutive seasons.  Moreover, they increased this record to seven after the 2009 season.

The Indianapolis Colts have a long history of name and ownership changes, and they can be traced all the way back to Dayton Triangles in 1913, a founding member of the NFL.  Since then, the Triangles became the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1930 and the Brooklyn Tigers in 1944.  After some mergers and cancellations, the team became the Baltimore Colts in 1947 (donning green and silver) which eventually folded.  Finally, in 1953, the Dallas Texans franchise moved to Baltimore, adopting the Baltimore Colts name but keeping the Texan’s Blue and White.
