NFL Football – About Miami Dolphins Football The Dolphins were established in 1966 in Davie, Florida, making them the oldest continuously operated major league professional sports franchise in the state. Founded by Joe Robbie, the Miami Dolphins made their first Super Bowl appearance at the end of the 1971 season, losing to the Dallas Cowboys. They made a significant name for themselves in the 1972 season, earning the first and only perfect season in NFL history.
