The villain of the story is Mufasa’s brother Scar who is plagued by jealousy that Simba’s birth means Scar will never advance to king. The story details Simba’s childhood and tragic events launch the story forward into Simba’s adult life where he realizes his destiny and steps forward to care for his family and the rest of the pride. After years of battle, Simba’s actions complete the circle of life and the play ends with a reprise of the opening song, “Circle of Life.” Elton John and Tim Rice are responsible for the music and lyrics of much of the Broadway play, which has more than 5,000 performances.
